Sue Walden is a Managing Director of HillStaffer, where she leads strategic legislative, public policy, and advocacy efforts for health care clients. Ms. Walden is an accomplished government relations professional with more than 30 years of public and private sector experience in the health care field. Her experience includes serving as congressional committee counsel and directing government relations for a major health care company, where she developed health care policy, built coalitions, and led major legislative initiatives. Her background includes expertise in Medicare and Medicaid coverage and reimbursement, health care quality, and health information technology, along with a decade of representing a Fortune 100 global health care company on a wide range of pharmaceutical, biologic, and medical device issues.

Prior to HillStaffer, Ms. Walden served as Health Policy Counsel to Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA), former Chairman/Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, where she developed legislation on issues including Medicare payment and delivery system reforms. Ms. Walden was responsible for developing legislative proposals in areas such as reimbursement for physicians and other health care providers, quality improvement incentives, value-based purchasing, and Medicare demonstration programs, including numerous provisions enacted in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). Previously, Ms. Walden served as Health Policy Advisor to Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME), where she managed an active legislative agenda and advised the Senator on Medicare and Medicaid issues affecting hospitals, physicians, post-acute care providers, and prescription drugs, including implementation of Medicare Part D.

Ms. Walden also brings significant private sector experience to HillStaffer clients. She was Director of Federal Relations for Johnson & Johnson, where she served as Washington representative and directed federal legislative affairs for company businesses that manufactured and distributed pharmaceutical, medical device, and consumer products. Ms. Walden developed policy and legislative strategies and coordinated and led corporate advocacy efforts on major pharmaceutical and medical device legislation, including Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act amendments, the Medicaid rebate program, the Section 340B drug discount program, and the VA Federal Supply Schedule program.

Ms. Walden graduated with honors from the University of Georgia and earned a J.D. from the American University Washington College of Law.
